I Greatly Apologize!

I am truly sorry to all my readers and followers that I have not posted anything in almost 3 months but guess what Your SPORTS KNOWLEDGE DIVA is BAAAAACK!!! and there is alot to cover but I am going to keep it short and SIMPLE!!!
First things First... Welcome back to the free world Vick! I am so happy that football commissioner Goodell has allowed him back on conditional reinstatement which could allow him to play in week 4-6 of the season... Now we wait on a team to take him on! As much as it will kill me not to see him running down the field in a Falcons jersey, it will feel sooo good jus to see him playing the sport again! And with former Colts Coach Tony Dungy giving his support to Vick I think its only a matter of days until a team decides its the right choice to put his great talent on their team. OOOOO I cant wait... AND FOR THE RECORD! I the Falcons are my favorite team! And Vick is my favorite player! And I will cheer for HIM on whatever team he joins!
NEXT!!!!!
Throughout football season I will DEFINATLY be keeping up with KISS. On Tuesdays will be college day where I will talk about the previous weekends TOP games! And giving some of the lookouts for the upcoming weekend! Highlighting star players, the Top 10 and the road to the national championship game....On Thursdays will be NFL day at it will be in the same format but I will give predictions for the upcoming weeks games (because there are a lot less predictions to make :)

What a game!! Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals

Game 1 of the Western Conference Finals is in the books ! And man was it a butt clincher! Lol! It kept me on the edge of my bar stool the whole time.
I arrived at Sports City well into the 2nd quarter and watched the Nuggets hold on to their narrow lead until Fisher's 3 pointer with 1 sec remaining in the half....
The 2nd half was a back and forth battle with the Nuggets using Carmelo for thoes 3 pointers... who lead by as much as 9 through out the game. But in the 4th is when the Lakers showed they were a team that had been in this situation before and deserved to be in it once again! The Lakers led once again by Kobe Bryant were able to pull off a last ditch effort to Win 105-103... The Nuggets led through out but some costly fouls and missed rebounds put them on the losing end of this magnificent opening West Finals game.
I was truly impressed with the composer the Nuggets came out with tonight. But the thing they have to learn is this team they are facing is the Hornets, they arent the the Maverick... they are the LA Lakers, a team that has had their heads driven to the pavement in their last series. The Nuggets HAVE to bring it harder and cleaner than ever before it's a must if they are going to last in game 2 and 3 with them.
Carmelos 39 points proves that he is someone to be reckoned with... and with Billups scoring 19 the Nuggets need to take some of the pressure off their stars and have the other starters and the bench step up like earlier in the Playoffs. This is crucial! Because if you saw towards the end they were double teaming both!
Kobe's 40 points were the money for the Lakers.... and if it wasnt for him the game would have been over during the 2nd quarter and the Nuggets would have ran away with it.

A very impressive performance from both teams!!!!

I predict from game 1.....hmmmmmmm the Nuggets take it in 6 games.....

Game 2 Thursday at 8 central time!!

Happy Birthday Mommy!!!

I want to wish a Happy Birthday to the greatest woman in the world my Momma!! Thank you for being there for every event, listening to all my stories, being there through the problems, and most of all being there for the great times. We have traveled coast to coast making memories that will last a life time and that most only dreamed of. And most of all thank you for supporting me in my dream of becoming a sports reporter, sitting there while Jon and I watch all the games on the big screen and paying to send us to what games you could. I love you with all my heart and I am sooo proud of how you are doing in school.

Im totally CEREAL!!!!

Love your baby girl-
Brandee

Check out 4th and Long... that premiers on SPIKE TV tonight!

Last Thursday I was given a very special opportunity to rub elbows with some big names, watch the premier of Michael Irvins reality show 4th and Long and be able to see people come together for a great cause....

Over the last few months I have made a connect with one of Michael Irvins very close friends, who knows its my goal to one day be a sports reporter and this man must have some type of faith in me because he is giving me and inviting me to many opportunities to meet and mingle with some big names in the industry... Well last Thursday Michael Irvin had the launch party for his new reality show 4th and Long at Club Sting in Addison and I was invited to it. It was meant to only be the launch of the show but after the tragic paralization of Dallas Cowboys scouting assistant Rich Behm, it became a fundraising event more than anything.

A couple of weeks ago Dallas was hit with some insane storms and two weeks ago this past Saturday, the Cowboy's Rookies were showing off what they had when all of a sudden the winds and rain became so violent that it turned the Dallas Cowboys practice facility at valley ranch (which is a tent like structure) in to a pile of plastic and metal framing. I was at work that Saturday around 5pm that day and on all our TVs were breaking news of the collapse. You could see these young rookies holding on to support beams as tight as they could, with their helmets still securely fastened and you could tell they were scared as the tent material that the facility was made of rumbled back and forth. After the storm passed, all that was left was nothing but the field. It was the talk around the restaurant. But on my drive to school on Monday morning I heard on ESPN radio about the Rich Behm ,33 who was paralyzed from the waist down. Behm has two young sons and a baby girl. And from the kindness of his heart Michael Irvin turned the launch, which could have been all about him into a fund raiser for the young man's family. As you entered the the club that was lined with Bentley after Bentley after Bentley and Rolls Royce's you were met with a donation jar... I dropped my sad $20 bill into the sea of 100s. But I felt good I gave what I could. After the showing of the new show, is when the rallying for donations for Behm began... Mike started off in a preacher like tone asking for people to give! Asking for 5,000 straight up and just like me throwing $5 in the the offering plate at church these giving people began to give and give. Cowboys superstars like Jason Whitten and De Marcus Ware and former Cowboy great Greg Ellis...to owner Jerry Jones, head coach Wade Phillips, Jason Garret and other coaches were in attendance and gave and gave BIG!!! This was a true rally for this man! And Jerry said what ever was raised that night, the cowboys would match it dollar for dollar! This just proved that beyond what these men do on the field they have BIG hearts and really care about their team family and you could hear it in the speeches they gave. This was truly an eye opening and moving experience for me.

But through all of the giving there was the premier in store. I sat in the big screening room and watched anxiously... It starts off introducing the contestants 6 wide receivers and 6 defensive ends and introducing them to Mike and the two coaches Joe Avezzano (WRs coach) and Bill Bates (DBs coach) these three men will determine who goes home every week and who will get the opportunity to attend Dallas Cowboys training camp and the chance to play for America's team. The contestants for the most part are all former college players who had chances to play in the NFL but due to things such as injury, schisty agents, and bad tryouts at the combine these players didnt make it to the pros. The schools this men went range from division I like Texas and OU to division II universities like Tennessee State. Some have even made big names for themselves in the arena football league. As they stand on the field of the Cotton Bowl they findout they will be living in the locker rooms at the stadium that have been spruced up into fancy dorms. The next day training begins and its intense lots of running and sweating and blowing chunks!!!! I wont tell anymore you needa check it out for yourself but weekly Ill give you my take on the show! So far its great and it really show you that Mike means business! As it the shows tag line says "It takes a Legend to Find a Star" and he wont take anything less.

As I was at the premier, I was able to meet Kevin Kiley, Mike's co-host on ESPN radio and had a nice long conversation with him. I told him what I wanted to do, he gave me some pointers and I gave him my contact card. I like him so much better in person, on the radio he seems like such a douche but I realized he's just doing his job and creating the vibe their radio show has, and it spot on! He was so down to earth and just made me want to keep going and going to reach my goal. I was also able to meet some sports journalists from around Dallas and made some good connects and gave away a few contact cards. I also was able to meet Big from the MTV hit show Rob and Big. The big guy Nate Newton and many others. Mike even posed for the camera with me and signed a big poster for his show that I took off the wall.

It was an amazing night... and I want to thank my good friend Jemaine giving me the chance to be apart of this charitable, memorable night!

Western Conference Finals Start Tomorrow!!

Tomorrow is the start of Basketballs Conference Finals! Tomorrow the top contenders in the West will face off..... a veteran team who were in this same place last year (the Lakers)take on a younger team who hasnt been to the conference championship since 1985 (the Nuggets).... Im looking very much forward to this matchup.... 1st off if you read my 1st blog the Nuggets are my favorite basketball team but Ive always liked the Lakers.... The Nuggets are my team and Ill be standing right by them.... After the problems that surrounded the team off court, didnt dampen their play on the court. The "thug-nuts" as Galloway and Company refer to them as, use their aggressive basketball skills to make things happen and blow out the last 2 teams they played 4 games to 1 (which has made me very happy lol... having so many friends from N.O. and watching them getting blown out and then being from Dallas and seeing them get whooped too... classic... O people stop hating)! The Nuggets made the right decision by bringing in Billups a veteran to the Conference Finals and Finals. This move gave them some mellowness and a 3-pointer that really propelled them to a comfortable #2 standing in the West...and with Carmelo averaging 22.8 points per game during the season and keeping up with those stats through out the post season... this team is one that will put up a great fight... oops I mean challenge against the Lakers. And K-Mart (the Dallas Bryan Adams H.S. Alum), Dahntay Jones and Nene, this starting line up is unbelievable. Players such as the Birdman (who Ill admit looks damn good when his hair isnt done like a peacock), J.R. Smith and Andersen make for a bench thats better than most starting line-ups in the east! No wonder during the 1st 2 rounds of the playoffs they averaged out scoring the Hornets and the Mavs 111-95! The main key will be keeping their star players (which is basically the whole team) out of foul trouble, which is hard due to their aggressive basketball skills!
I say it now I do not think the challenge ahead of them going against the Lakers will be as sweet and easy! The Lakers are coming off an emotional loss to Boston in the Finals last year and the team has Finals engineered into their DNA... Theyre ready and Kobe is ready to get the title without the help of O'Neil. But with with their Conference Semi Finals going 7 games against the Rockets, I believe the cool headed Lakers may have some trouble.... There is no doubt they have played like the best in the West all season long but what is this? This is the PLAYOFFS and its a different type of bball...But I think Kobe will come out and put the team on his back and journey them to the promise land once again. He is still at the top of the leading scorers for his team through out the regular and post season. He also has a veteran starting lineup who all mesh so well together watching them play sometimes looks like its team practice and there isnt an opponent. Fisher, Ariza, and Gasol are like the wet ingredients to a cake mix, Bynum is the flour who helps them rise above the opponent with great center action and Bryant is the icing, sprinkles, candles on the cake. But if it isnt for all three parts this team wouldnt be who they are.... and just like a cake they dont always require the icing, the wet and dry ingredients can make a yummy, aggressive scoring cake! And with Odom, Powell, and Vujacic coming off the bench its like multiple layers to the cake. They are always better at home and I think this will give them a huge advantage if this series goes to 7 but I think the match up will be a great one!
And if you listened to my radio show... before the playoffs began I moved the Lakers into the Finals and even had them winning the whole thing (I do love yellow cake :) but I am PULLING for the Nuggets to Win the west and be the up-set)!!! Game 1 of the Westeren Conference Finals starts tomorrow at 8pm EST..... OOOOO I CANT WAIT!!!

***Ill tell ya what I think about the East and why I think the Magic will just be another trick for LeBron James and the Cavaliers!

Just like in every sport their is a 1st, 1st quarter, 1st inning, 1st period well this is my 1st blogg post! And Imma start it out by telling you a little bit about Your Sports Knowledge Diva, Me, Brandee Urreta!!!
Well as you have already read my name is Brandee Urreta and I am 22 years old... I live in Mesquite TX, a suburb of Dallas and I attend the University of Texas @ Arlington.... I am a broadcast journalism major and on track to graduate next May! It is my GOAL to work somewhere in the sports journalism industry ESPN SportsCenter is my GOAL, my SuperBowl, my WorldSeries, my FinalFour, myNBAChampionship, my NationalChampionship, my StanleyCup.... being on Sportscenter would be my version of winning a championship ring and I would just DVR and watch it over and over again! Im willing to go the distance to get to that goal! I dont claim to know everything about sports but I know things about about eveything! Im always wanting to learn more and more and more! So if you know more lemme know and I will take it in!
I attend Horn High School in Mesquite TX and we did not have Varsity sports until my Junior year due to it being a new school. So instead of watching the upper classmen and focus on them... I watched my friends grow into becoming top notch high school athletes... more on my friends in future bloggs... but it was at this time I began my intrest and my love for sports... watching these young men put in the sweat and tears not to go to a State Championship or any type of title but putting in the work for the love of the game! Ive learned you have to love the game willing to work, break, bleed, sweat, cry, and LOVE the game to recieve RESPECT from the game and earn the $100 million contracts and the love of millions of fans who will sit around a TV for hours, buy a jersey and go to the games.... Not everyones love for the game will get them to the bigs or to where they want to be but it's a clear start! There will be more on this later as well!
Now a little bit about my favorite teams! My favorite college team for any sport is HANDS DOWN is the LSU Tigers! Right out of high school I attended LSU for a year and a half... I worked for the campus TV station as a sports reporter and I attend Les Miles press conferences and did player interviews and attended games on the field! I ended up focusing more on my TV job then my grades and I had to move back to Dallas... but from going there LSU became my favorite team and I don't care what school I graduate from LSU will always be MY school! More on my LOVE for LSU in later bloggs. My favorite pro football team is the Atlanta Falcons! Yes I know strange im from Dallas and the Cowboys arent my favorite team but as long as theyre not play Atlanta, Ill root for them! Ive been a Falcons fan since '98 when they played the Broncos in the SuperBowl.... mainly due to my brother rooting for the Broncos! Couldnt root for the same team LoL!! More on them later as well! My favorite pro Basketball team is the Denver Nuggets! Dont ask they just are~ been liking them since 2004 when my fav college player Carmello Anthony went there.... but lemme say now, I have fallen in love with the team and if Mello leaves I will stay a fan no matter what!!!! M.O.T.L (more on this later) and my baseball team is the home town Texas Rangers! They have just usually been a team that looses their excitement in July so I begin to follow more of the Dodgers and Red Sox! M.O.T.L.!
Well Im going to give your eyes some time to relax but I jus wanted to give you a snidbit about me and a couple of my views! Stay tuned!
