Tomorrow is the start of Basketballs Conference Finals! Tomorrow the top contenders in the West will face off..... a veteran team who were in this same place last year (the Lakers)take on a younger team who hasnt been to the conference championship since 1985 (the Nuggets).... Im looking very much forward to this matchup.... 1st off if you read my 1st blog the Nuggets are my favorite basketball team but Ive always liked the Lakers.... The Nuggets are my team and Ill be standing right by them.... After the problems that surrounded the team off court, didnt dampen their play on the court. The "thug-nuts" as Galloway and Company refer to them as, use their aggressive basketball skills to make things happen and blow out the last 2 teams they played 4 games to 1 (which has made me very happy lol... having so many friends from N.O. and watching them getting blown out and then being from Dallas and seeing them get whooped too... classic... O people stop hating)! The Nuggets made the right decision by bringing in Billups a veteran to the Conference Finals and Finals. This move gave them some mellowness and a 3-pointer that really propelled them to a comfortable #2 standing in the West...and with Carmelo averaging 22.8 points per game during the season and keeping up with those stats through out the post season... this team is one that will put up a great fight... oops I mean challenge against the Lakers. And K-Mart (the Dallas Bryan Adams H.S. Alum), Dahntay Jones and Nene, this starting line up is unbelievable. Players such as the Birdman (who Ill admit looks damn good when his hair isnt done like a peacock), J.R. Smith and Andersen make for a bench thats better than most starting line-ups in the east! No wonder during the 1st 2 rounds of the playoffs they averaged out scoring the Hornets and the Mavs 111-95! The main key will be keeping their star players (which is basically the whole team) out of foul trouble, which is hard due to their aggressive basketball skills!
I say it now I do not think the challenge ahead of them going against the Lakers will be as sweet and easy! The Lakers are coming off an emotional loss to Boston in the Finals last year and the team has Finals engineered into their DNA... Theyre ready and Kobe is ready to get the title without the help of O'Neil. But with with their Conference Semi Finals going 7 games against the Rockets, I believe the cool headed Lakers may have some trouble.... There is no doubt they have played like the best in the West all season long but what is this? This is the PLAYOFFS and its a different type of bball...But I think Kobe will come out and put the team on his back and journey them to the promise land once again. He is still at the top of the leading scorers for his team through out the regular and post season. He also has a veteran starting lineup who all mesh so well together watching them play sometimes looks like its team practice and there isnt an opponent. Fisher, Ariza, and Gasol are like the wet ingredients to a cake mix, Bynum is the flour who helps them rise above the opponent with great center action and Bryant is the icing, sprinkles, candles on the cake. But if it isnt for all three parts this team wouldnt be who they are.... and just like a cake they dont always require the icing, the wet and dry ingredients can make a yummy, aggressive scoring cake! And with Odom, Powell, and Vujacic coming off the bench its like multiple layers to the cake. They are always better at home and I think this will give them a huge advantage if this series goes to 7 but I think the match up will be a great one!
And if you listened to my radio show... before the playoffs began I moved the Lakers into the Finals and even had them winning the whole thing (I do love yellow cake :) but I am PULLING for the Nuggets to Win the west and be the up-set)!!! Game 1 of the Westeren Conference Finals starts tomorrow at 8pm EST..... OOOOO I CANT WAIT!!!
***Ill tell ya what I think about the East and why I think the Magic will just be another trick for LeBron James and the Cavaliers!
